The proposal responds to the competition’s brief for a mixed use cultural and civic centre in a very small village of Spain. Given the very limited surface available, the flexibility and compatibility of simultaneous use is essential. The main idea conceives the building as a wooden cabinet with internal drawers of furniture that can be extended to adapt to an exhibition, a theatre play, a residents assembly or any other event. As the scale is so small, the technology involved is closer to a workshop piece assembled on site rather than a conventional building with complex auxiliary devices. The whole constructive concept is based in a double skin 80cm thick that holds the inner partitions and furniture, as well as the building’s openings and shutters. The main structure are big curved metal beams covered in timber boards; the outer ones are pixel-like elements painted in colours and the inner ones are industrial OSB boards.
